South Africa, also commonly called Sunny South Africa, is a country offering abundance of opportunities for lovers of active holiday. Since the country's first post-apartheid elections in 1994 South Africa has been economically flourishing and today it is among the strongest economies of Africa earning it a well-deserved membership in BRICS organisation. Location

South Africa is so large in area we could almost be talking about a continent. With 1,233,404 square kilometers of area South Africa offers plenty travel opportunities. Whether you love to indluge in luxury resorts or an explorer in soul you will find everything you need from seaside beaches and shark diving to desert safari to trekking tours in breathtaking mountain areas. The country has several national parks and nature reserves. The most famous and popular is the Kruger National Park in the northeast of the country. The country is surrounded predominantly by sea altough it has many inland neighbours - namely Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Swaziland and the Kingdom of Lesotho. A flight from Prague to Johannesburg takes around 13 hours including a transfer in Frankfurt and up to 18 hours if using other flight routes.

South Africa is known for its long sunny days, hence the name Sunny South Africa. In most of the nine South African provinces rainfall is high in summer except in the Western Cape where rainfall occurs in winter. High areas may be cold in winter. According to local authorities the South African season is divided as follows:

Time zone: Despite the geographical distance from Prague the time shift is only 1 hour in winter and none in summer time
Language: a total of 11 official languages are recognized in South Africa, including English, Afrikaans, Zulu, Xhosa and others
Religion: The ethnic and linguistic diversity of South Africa naturally influenced the diversity of the religious mosaic. Christianity is the most prevalent religion in the country but on closer look you will find there are many different splits in the Christian community. As a result there are many different groups ranging such as Zion, Catholic, Anglican Church, Dutch Church or the Evangelical Methodist Church and many more. Muslims and hinduists make only 1% of the population and roughly 15% of the population considers itself atheists.

Vaccination: No vaccination is required for European travelers, however malaria vaccination is recommended. If you fly to South Africa from a sub-Saharan African country such as Zambia or Tanzania you will need to have yellow fever vaccination.
Transporation: South Africa has a total of three international airports namely OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, Cape Town International Airport in Cape Town and King Shaka International Airport in Durban. In addition there is a number of other regional airports such as the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport in Mbombele (Nelspruit) near the Kruger National Park. The main tourist areas have a high quality and relatively dense network of motorways. However it should not be forgotten that the vast distances between cities often make it necessary to divide the journey into two or more days.

Visa to South Africa

If you are a foreign national let us know what passport you hold and we will inform you whether or not you are obliged to apply for visa to Mauritius.

Holders of all types of Czech travel documents traveling to South Africa for tourist or business purposes can enter South Africa for up to 90 days with out visa. For other types of stay, please contact the South African embassy before visiting the country.

Please note that in May 2014 new immigration laws came into force in South Africa in order to restrict travel to the country. Details of this change are discussed individually based on your travel plans.
