Qatar

Qatar

Pearl shells, Arabic teapots, jugs, massive statues, precise landscaping and the skyline of modern skyscrapers of all shapes and heights are the first impressions of Qatar - an ambitious yet small in size Middle-Eastern country. Competition with the neighbouring United Arab Emirates has driven this small Gulf state to create its own strategy of growth and prosperity. Its aim is to build a country whose main objective is to promote international business, culture, art, education and sport. For in Qatar you can visit many museums, cultural institutions such as theaters, film studios, libraries, galleries or try some of its numerous sports facilities. For the very same reason the Old Doha underwent a successful refurbishment to create a picturesque historic center with stylish boutique hotels and pedestrian zones. The waterfront has been completed as well and it ends on the so called Pearl Island which aims to compete with the rivaling Palm Island in Dubai. Every year Qatar comes up with a novelty that wants to attract more and more tourists to the country. Qatar is a luxury holiday destination for the more relaxed leisure travelers. The number of luxury hotels is increasing at a fast pace year by year and so is the gourmet scene and golf courses.

Weather

The weather in Qatar is practically the same as in the nearby Dubai. From mid-October to mid-Mayl the days are peasantly sunny, whilst evening are warm. In January and February it may be a bit cold though. Rains occur from December to February, and sandstorms or thunderstorms may occur in spring. From mid-June to September it is very hot and at the same time very humid, so all buildings and cars are heavily air-conditioned and therefore most "natives" like to go to Europe and other parts of the world.

The following table shows the average daily air temperatures in Doha:

January February March April May June July August September October November December

Location

Qatar is located on the southeastern tip of the Arabian Peninsula.  On the mainland side it neighbours with Saudi Arabia, while sea divides it from its other neighbours - namely Iran, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. Qatar is an important Middle Eastern country although its area of 11 437 km2 does not prove it. Most of the territory is covered with desert and all the life is concentrated in the capital city Doha. There you will find a relatively small historical part and also the new modern one where most luxury hotels and resorts are located. Entreprise offices and shopping malls are also to be found there.

The luxurious Banana Island Resort occupies a unique sport on a separate island about 30 minutes away from the mainland by boat. Among other things, Doha is the home of Qatar's main international airport which is very modern and can be reached from Prague by direct flight with Qatar Airways in about 6 hours.
