Mauritius

Mauritius has been one of the most popular exotic destinations in recent years and its popularity is increasing year by year. It is mainly due to the high level of accommodation capacity, the exotic atmosphere influenced by various cultures, the sea of God and last but not least the relative proximity to Europe. Another fact may also be the great conditions for all kinds water of sports from snorkeling to fishing or windsurfing as well as the existence of 9 national parks. There are also 27 golf courses, eight of which have 18 holes and breathtaking views of the sea or the countryside. After India and Britain, Mauritius was the third country to start building golf courses and interestingly the Mauritius Gymchana Club is today the oldest golf course in the southern hemisphere. The symbol of the island is the extinct Dodo bird but there is hope that another 700 endemic species of plants and birds that aren't present anywhere else in the world won't end up only a memory imprinted on a banknotes. Curious travelers will be delighted to know that Mauritius has two World UNESCO Heritigages listted. The first one being the sacred mountain of Le Morne and the second a hostel of Indian workers called Aapravasi Ghat. Mauritius is the second largest flower producer in the world right after the Netherlands and it becomes obvious once you explore the through numerous valleys of the island. There are indeed many reasons to explore Mauritius and we are quite confident that you will love it as much as we do.

Frequently asked questions

The answer depends on seaons throughout the year. From November to March it doesn't really matter as all areas of the island will welcome you with warm and pleasant weather. On the contrary, in the remaining months, we recommend accommodation on the western and northwestern part of the island, where you will be protected from eastern winds, which, among other things, pollute the beaches with seaweed and seashore in the south retreats significantly. If you happen to be attracted by the hustle and bustle of the city, look for the northwest, which is also the capital of Port Louis. Mauritius is a relatively small island and the short distances between individual points correspond accordingly.

When in Mauritius you will experience the best temperatures from December to March when the sun is pleasantly warm although you have to take into account occasional short showers. In summer temperatures are slightly lower and you can expect strong winds on the east bank bringing algae ashore. The less attractive summer however can be offset by practically zero rainfall.

Windsurfing, kitesurfing, wakeboarding, snorkeling, diving, paddleboarding, catamarans - you can do it all when staying in Mauritius. There are many decent places to do it but as for us we would recommend the southwest tip of the island right next to the sacred hilltop Le Morne. Below it you may find resorts like  Beachcomber Dinarobin and Paradis or luxury boutique hotel The St. Regis.

It takes a while to reach the paradise so count on at least 14 hours including transfers. The actual time will always depend on the particular flight chosen as each airline has different schedules and routes. When planning a vacation to Mauritius always count on 2 days for flights to / from Mauritius + the stay itself. In this case, a weekly stay requires 9 full days.

Why couldn't you? Such combinations are nothing new to us and our clients. For instance Dubai, Oman or Botswana make a great combination with Mauritius.

Weather

Mauritius lies in the tropical zone which is characterized by dry winters and frequent but short rains during summer. The differences between winter and summer are not large so we can generally say that the island has pleasant year-round temperatures. The main difference is that the sea in winter has only about 23 degrees celsius and you may encounter winds and beach algae at the eastern parts of the island, whilst in summer from November to April the sea is warm with temperatures around 26-29 degrees celsius. The eastern side of the island is characterized by wind currents that cool it, inland temperature of Nature Reserves is 2-3 degrees lower than both coastal zones.

The following chart shows the average daily air temperatures in Mauritius:

January February March April May June July August September October November December
Average maximum 29 30 29 29 28 27 25 25 26 27 29 30
Average minimum 22 23 22 21 20 18 17 17 17 19 20 22
