Sub-Saharan Africa

What do you want to ask about?

No vaccination is required for European travelers although malaria vaccination is recommended when traveling to Mpumalanga, Limpopo and northern KwaZulu-Natal. If you fly to South Africa from a sub-Saharan African country such as Zambia or Tanzania you will have to undergo yellow fever vaccination. It is not advisable to use perfume and aftershave balm when traveling in  malaric areas. Instaed it is recommended to use a repellent, long sleeved shirt, long trousers and drink gin with tonic (no joke). In some remote areas in north and east of the country a dangerous species of parasite Bilharsiella resides in rivers, lakes and dams and may cause health problems. The only way to protect yourself from it is to avoid these areas. However water in most cities is clean and safe to drink. We recommend you to drink bottled water which is available in all hotels, loggias, etc.

Kids traveling to South Africa must carry an original statement proving consent of both parents with the kid's travel to South Africa. Additionally a birth certificate must be provided with english translation and stamp from local authorities.

Generally speaking it is a safe and modern country. However there are certain areas where precautions need to be taken. Just as elsewhere in the world it is necessary to watch your belongigs when traveling in South Africa. When staying in cities like Johannesburg we do not recommend walking on the street alone after dawn and your car should always be locked and leave nothing inside. If you plan to visit poor neighborhoods, keep in mind that even your modest outfits can look more luxurious to the locals than you think.

The most beautiful photos will be taken with the arrival of the South African Spring, which starts in September and when blossoming flowers cover the Northern and Western Cape landscape. Absolutely stunning photographs in this regard can also be taken in an area called Namaqualand. The landscape there is dotted with fuchsias of all shades like pink, yellow and orange thanks to star plants and succulents. Flowers open only on sunny days and the most beautiful views are between 11-16 o'clock although a photographer may need extra equipment to balance the harsh ligh conditions. If you move east of Cape Town around May and June, in addition to the well-known Garden Route, you may also encounter sea whale flocks with their youngs at the seaside town of Hermanus. Fans of traditional safaris and hunting without weapons should head to South Africa in June, during the dry season. That is when animals are gathering at waterholes in abundant quantities.

Yes of course you may. A popular combination of our clients is a trip to South Africa with a stop in Dubai. We also highly recommend combining South Africa with a stay by the sea in Mozambique. The nature and water there is absolutely pristine with minimum of tourists and also warmer sea. Last but not least a trip to South Africa can be combined with a stop at the Victoria Falls or with safari in Botswana. Honestly speaking we think it is better to devote each of these countries a separate holiday because each of them has plenty to offer and you don't want to spoil the experience at either one.

South Africa is known for its long sunny days. Unlike the northern hemisphere summer in South Africa starts in December and ends in February. That's the season when it rains the most and when rivers reach their maximum levels. The cold days occur from May to August with significant temperature differences between day and night. Daytime temperatures in winter are around 18 degrees whilst night temperatures reach only about three degrees celsius. Winter season in most of the South Africa is considered to be dry. However as South Africa is very large the conditions may vary from region to region.

The weather also impacts major holidays which happen in December and January. At these times South Africans often visit beaches and mountains. Popular areas experience major influx of toursits also during Easter and during the next school holidays that take place inn June and July.

Probably the best time to visit South Africa is in September through October when the temperatures are the most pleasant and when nature with the advent of spring blossoms. Hikers will appreciate the warm days and slightly colder nights of May and June while game watchers praise the period from June to August when a large amount of game gathers at watering places.
